Morphology and Mineralogical Characteristics of Detrital Iron Deposit of North Odisha Iron Ore Craton, India

Objectives: North Odisha Iron Ore Craton (NOIOC) is a distinguished place for iron formation with Banded Formation (BIF) as common and abundant litho type. In few localities in Bonai-Keonjhar belt (BK belt) Channel Deposits (CID) specifically detrital type of deposits occur along BIF. Chamakpur-Inganjharan sector BK located on both sides bank the River Baitarani occupied by Detrital (DID) varying spatial horizon. A comprehensive study had been carried out morphology mineralogical characteristics DID specified field area to locate new occurrences ore. Methods: The part primarily focused observations revealing depositional configuration respect size, sorting orientation clasts. Mineralogical studies have using optical microscope supported Xray Diffraction (XRD) instrumental technique. bulk chemical analysis was employing X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) instrument. Findings: mostly occurs isolated bodies limited extensions comprising predominantly cobbles pebbles hematite amounts shale, BIF & quartz reveals that mainly consist hematite, goethite, clay. Hematite, silica clay are matrix bind clasts DID. Novelty: next regards abundancy, which has not yet prospecting. Not much geological work done attain commercial production DID, even though they available suitable grades. So this paper discusses about lithological will help mining Fe-ores maintain sustainable mineral development fast depleting hosted Fe-ore scenario. We also discussed possible mode deposition form alluvium colluvium supplied from bedded Fe deposits. It evident dominated fragments, can be future source production.
